(Seville, 1989) She studied Surface Design at the University of the Arts London, at the London College of Communication, and later graduated in Textile Design from Central Saint Martins. Irene Infantes works with the concept of textiles, but from a displaced perspective. Without spinning or weaving, she explores what a textile can become when it moves beyond its traditional techniques and definitions. In her search for a “non-woven textile,” she develops experimental works that combine ancestral processes with contemporary tools and technologies. Play and experimentation are fundamental to Infantes’ practice, both in her pictorial work and in her exploration of materials and new conceptual possibilities. She has participated in fairs such as ARCO, ARTBO, and Untitled Miami, and has exhibited at institutions including PAMM Miami, TAM Beijing, CAAC, and MKG Hamburg. Her work is held in collections including CA2M, MuCAC, CAAC, DKV, FCDP, UAL, Cajasol, Taka Ishii Tokyo, Birbragher, Yera, and Espacio 23 Miami, among others. As a designer, she has her own furniture brand, Fiormi. She has undertaken projects with the prestigious Josef & Anni Albers Foundation, Alexander McQueen, LEGO, Christopher Farr, and Lexus. Her work has been exhibited at Salone del Mobile Milano, London Design Festival, Alcova Miami, and Design Museum Denmark, among others.
