Fernando Dolorier (Lima, 1994) is an artist whose practice explores the ways in which images shape our experience of the world. His work originates from an extensive visual archive composed of images drawn from advertising, cinema, the press, digital platforms, art history, and his own photographic documentation. Through the act of painting, these images are displaced from their original context in order to establish new formal and narrative relationships. Dolorier's process dispenses with preliminary sketches; instead, the decisions that gradually distance the work from its source image are made directly on the canvas, giving each painting a sense of risk and discovery. His visual language combines painterly realism, abstraction, and caricature, bringing together oil paint, charcoal, spray paint, markers, wax, and oil sticks on surfaces where fields of color, expressionist gestures, gradients, and figurative fragments coexist. His work focuses on contemporary experience, both through the use of mass-circulated images that construct systems of ideals and through representations of urban space and everyday life. In doing so, he seeks to open up new possibilities for reorganizing meaning: advertising images, everyday scenes, transitional spaces, architecture, figures, and faces are released from the functions for which they were originally conceived, allowing them to be contemplated rather than simply seen. In response to the speed at which images circulate and disappear, Dolorier's paintings invite viewers to slow the pace of visual consumption and reclaim the ability to construct personal meaning. His work emphasizes the value of subjectivity, time, and individual perspective in an age of information overload. In this sense, painting becomes a space in which the image regains density, duration, and material presence, allowing viewers the time to build meaning through their own experience
